Brass

Overview

Brass is an alloy composed of copper and zinc, brass composed of copper and zinc is called common brass, if it is composed of more than two kinds of alloy is called special brass.
Common brass is a copper zinc binary alloy, and its zinc content varies widely, so its room temperature structure is also very different. According to the Cu-Zn binary state diagram, there are three kinds of room temperature microstructure of brass: brass with zinc content below 35%, and the microstructure at room temperature is composed of single-phase alpha solid solution, which is called alpha brass. Brass with zinc content in the range of 36% to 46%, the microstructure at room temperature is composed of (α+β) two phases, called (α+β) brass (two-phase brass). Brass with zinc content of more than 46% to 50%, the microstructure at room temperature is only composed of beta phase, called beta brass.

Application

Common brass has a wide range of uses, such as water tank belts, water supply and drainage pipes, MEDALS, bellows, serpentine pipes, condensing pipes, shell casings and various shapes of complex products, hardware and so on. With the increase of zinc content, they can withstand hot processing well, and are mostly used in various parts of machinery, watches, electrical appliances, stamping parts and Musical Instruments.
